What does the price actually depend on?
Five things: (1) brand and year of the car, (2) whether you have a working key (spare) or zero working keys (AKL), (3) key type — old metal, transponder chip, smart push-start, UWB, (4) whether you want OEM-branded or aftermarket, (5) whether you drive in or want mobile dispatch.
Quick price ranges by tier
Tier A (Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Subaru): spare $129–$329 today, AKL $299.99–$579 today.
Tier B (Ford, Chevy, GMC, Buick, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Chrysler): spare $129–$349, AKL $299.99–$609.
Tier C (Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Genesis, Nissan): spare $129–$429, AKL $299.99–$679.
Tier D (VW, Volvo, Mini, Fiat, Alfa Romeo): spare $149–$469, AKL $299.99–$719.
Tier E luxury (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Land Rover, Jaguar): $179–$2,499 depending on year — 2019+ JLR UWB and 2022+ Land Rover go up to $2,499 AKL.
Why dealers charge 2–4× more
Dealers add markup on the key blank (often 80%+), bill diagnostic + program time at $150/hr, and require towing if you have no working key. We carry the same OEM-spec blanks at wholesale, do the programming on-site, and don’t bill hourly — flat-rate quote upfront.
Can I save more if I’m already at the shop?
Yes — drive-in to Pickering shop is the cheapest option (no mobile fee). Combine with the FX-TODAY 17% same-day discount on the instant-quote tool and you’re paying ~30% less than mobile + dealer.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the instant-quote tool?
Pricing is a real range backed by our actual pricing schedule. The exact number within the range depends on whether you pick OEM or aftermarket, mobile zone, and whether your fob has any uncommon options (proximity, comfort access). The high end is rare — most jobs land near the low end.
Can I really lock in today’s price?
Yes — every quote generates an FX-TODAY-XXXX code valid until 11:59 PM same-day. Quote it on the phone or at the shop. Tomorrow it reverts to the regular rate (~17% higher).
What’s the difference between OEM and aftermarket?
OEM = the actual original manufacturer’s branded fob (Toyota part, BMW part, etc). Aftermarket = a high-quality compatible fob we cut + program. Both work identically for keyless entry, push-start, and the trunk button. Aftermarket saves 30–40% and carries the same 90-day warranty. OEM is preferred only if you want the original logo or warranty-replacement matching.
Why is BMW 2013–2017 priced as ‘FEM module work’?
BMW F-chassis cars (3, 5, 7, X, M from 2013–2017) require physically removing the FEM/BDC module from the car and soldering pins to add a key. This is real specialty work — different from older E-chassis or newer G-chassis. Pricing reflects the labor and is still 50–70% below dealer.
What about brand-new 2024+ models?
Most are covered. The ones that aren’t (specific 2024+ Polestar, Lucid, Rivian, BMW G-class iX) we tell you on the phone. For everything else, our equipment is current within 6 months of new model release.
