Inside the inspection
When do you need a safety certificate?
Ontario law requires a valid Safety Standards Certificate (SSC) in these situations:
Buying a used bike
Any private-sale motorcycle needs an SSC to plate it in your name. Get yours before insurance kicks in.
Out-of-province bike
Importing from Quebec, Alberta, BC, US? Must pass Ontario standards before plating.
Rebuild / salvage title
If your bike was branded unfit, salvage, or rebuilt — needs full inspection to return to road.
Re-licensing
Long-stored bike, expired registration? Get inspected before re-registering.

How long is the certificate valid?
36 calendar days from the date of inspection — that’s the MTO rule. You need to use it for plating / registering within that window.
What if my bike fails?
We give you a written list of every item that failed, what it costs to fix, and what we charge in labour. You can fix it yourself or have us do it. Either way, the re-inspection within 14 days is free — you only pay for parts + labour to repair.
Can I get the safety done on the day of purchase?
Yes — that’s the most common scenario. Bring the bike straight from the seller; you walk out with both the bike and the certificate ready for plating at ServiceOntario.
Do you take walk-ins?
Yes, but we recommend a quick call first to make sure the lift is free. Mornings are usually open same-day.
Heavy / touring / trike — can you handle the size?
Yes — Goldwings, Harleys, BMW GS, Indians, Spyder/Can-Am, sidecars all handled. The Cruiser/Heavy tier covers them. Call ahead if it’s an oversize trailer.
Do I need an appointment?
Recommended but not required. Booking online unlocks the 17% discount + reserves a slot + reveals the technician’s direct line. Drop-ins accepted as availability allows.
What if I can’t make it — is the deposit refundable?
Full refund if you cancel before your slot is held. After your slot is confirmed, the deposit applies as a missed-slot fee if you no-show without notice. To cancel: call the technician’s direct line (revealed on the confirmation page after payment) or email fobstoronto@gmail.com.
Is HST included in the deposit?
The deposit shown ($22 / $30 / $34 / $40) is the pre-tax pre-payment toward your inspection. HST is calculated on the full inspection price and settled at the counter with the balance.
