Quick answerNASTF VSP is the only legal path for independent locksmiths to program restricted brands (BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover, Porsche, Lexus). Without it, locksmiths can’t access manufacturer key databases. We are NASTF certified.
What NASTF stands for
The National Automotive Service Task Force is a joint industry-government organization that vets independent locksmiths through a background check, fingerprinting, annual recertification, and continuing education. Members get manufacturer-restricted security database access.
What restricted brands require NASTF
- BMW F-chassis (2012+) and G-chassis (2018+)
- Mercedes-Benz (FBS3, pre-2015)
- Land Rover / Range Rover
- Porsche
- Lexus (some 2015+ models)
- Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini
What happens if a non-NASTF shop tries
They cannot complete the job. They either turn you away (best case) or charge you for a partial job that doesn’t work and demand more money (worst case). Always ask “are you NASTF VSP certified” before booking.
