What’s actually inside both

OEM and aftermarket smart keys for the same vehicle use the same Texas Instruments or NXP chip with the same immobilizer protocol. The dealer’s “OEM” key and the aftermarket key are both manufactured at the same Asian factories.

The 3 real differences

1. Shell logo — OEM has the brand logo molded into the casing. Aftermarket is plain black plastic.
2. Resale value — for cars you’ll sell with a clean key history, OEM is a marginal upgrade. For daily drivers, doesn’t matter.
3. Battery — both use CR2032. Identical.
